Today (October 25), Fayetteville gathered at Creative Mornings to explore the theme of VISION, and what a profound journey it was, guided by the stories and insights of musician Jack Williams and storyteller Jeremiah Pickett, aka BANG.

Jack Williams: A Beacon of Music and History

With over 60 years of playing and songwriting experience, Jack Williams is truly a living legend, boasting a repertoire of 1,500 songs with about 200 that he regularly performs. Beyond his music, Jack is known for his open mics, where he fosters talent across all skill levels, creating a vibrant community of musicians. His dedication is unmatched; he embodies the essence of a “beacon of music” in the Fayetteville area.

Jack shared stories about his heroes through song, illuminating often-overlooked figures in American history. One such hero was Josh White, a celebrated Black folk singer from the 1930s, whose work continues to inspire. Another was George McJunction, a man born into slavery who escaped to become a cowboy, self-taught in reading despite prohibitions against literacy for slaves. Eventually, George became the first Black foreman on a white-owned ranch, the Crowfoot Ranch in Folsom. Not only did he excel in ranching, but he also explored archaeology, collecting bones and ancient artifacts, contributing to what we now know as the Folsom Site, pushing back our understanding of early Native American history. Jack’s song about McJunction celebrates this unsung American hero and the resilience of vision through adversity.

Jeremiah Pickett (BANG): Cultivating Vision Through Faith and Perseverance

Jeremiah Pickett, the vibrant mind behind podcastvidoes.com and a staple in the Fayetteville creative community, brought his own unique perspective on vision. He shared his story of resilience, including the life-changing experience of breaking his leg while teaching a trampoline flip. Opting against surgery, he leaned on faith, patience, and daily therapy to heal. The experience deepened his understanding of perseverance and the power of seeing beyond immediate circumstances.

For Jeremiah, vision is the foresight to see beyond obstacles, often a blend of faith, clarity, and resilience. He emphasizes holding plans loosely, making space for the divine, and allowing the universe to guide. His journey taught him that vision isn’t always clear and that persistence is essential, especially in challenging times.

In an era where so many lose sight of their dreams amidst daily routines, Jeremiah challenges us to tap into our dreams and actively pursue our vision. He encourages writing out steps, engaging community support, and always pressing forward.

A Morning of Music, Vision, and Faith

The Creative Mornings Fayetteville session on VISION was an inspiring reminder that vision goes beyond what we see – it’s about belief, perseverance, and community. Jack’s musical legacy and stories remind us of the importance of celebrating hidden histories and heroes. Meanwhile, Jeremiah’s life lessons emphasize the power of dreaming and believing in a future, even when the road is unclear.

So, as you move forward in your journey, remember to dream big, write it out, act with intention, and have faith in what lies ahead. Vision, after all, is about more than seeing; it’s about believing.
