Photography

As a teenager, I received a Pentax K1000 from my dad. Ever since, I have been a photographer. I see the world in pictures. It seems like I experience life through a screen, always framing the world around me.

For years, I loved being the photographer, the one behind the lens, capturing moments and perspectives. I enjoyed taking shots of others but rarely liked having my own image taken. Fortunately, I eventually got over that, and now I not only enjoy taking pictures but also having my picture taken.

One of my favorite things is photographing photographers. There’s something fascinating about capturing the person behind the camera, the one who is usually hidden from view. Seeing their concentration, their artistry in motion, is something I find compelling.

Now, with high-level cameras built into our phones, we all have more opportunities to take images here, there, and everywhere. The accessibility of photography has expanded the ways we document our lives and the world around us. What once required rolls of film and careful planning is now instant and limitless.

Still, even with all this technology, I cherish the lessons I learned from that Pentax K1000—the patience, the composition, the thrill of developing film and seeing what I had captured. That camera was more than a tool; it was the beginning of a lifelong way of seeing the world.

Some of my favorite photographers to follow are Meredith Mashburn, Beth Hall, Zen Len Photography, & Tim Ernst. When you want to appreciate some good shots, follow one of these amazing photographers. You may be intrigued to get out and enjoy something they are capturing.
