We are pleased to introduce Ryanne FitzGerald, a UofA student, as a new Star Shopper intern. We look forward to her contributions! Here’s some info about Ryanne:
About me excerpt:
I’ve been sitting here racking my brain and trying to come up with absolutely any novel way to introduce myself. Hello seems too abrupt… hi feels too juvenile…. Yet somehow I guess you’re already getting clued into one trait that I possess, which is being indecisive.
My name is Ryanne FitzGerald and I am so excited to be a part of the Star Shopper NWA team. As yet another Texas transplant, yes you can roll your eyes, I moved to Fayetteville four years ago to pursue my Advertising and Public Relations degree at The University of Arkansas. It was far too easy for me to fall in love with this place, as the second I got to experience all four seasons in one year I was hooked, comparing it to the dry summers of my Texan youth.
I ultimately set out to study advertising and public relations because I enjoyed how it mixed business with creativity, and I knew if I did not end up in a field in which I’m passionate that I would be sure to burn out. I have always been a creative person, and I would even go as far as to say it is the overarching quality of me that bleeds into everything I do. It is not limited to any form, whether its music, dance, fashion, painting, cinematography, poetry, crafting or more, I will be drawn to it. This is what pulled me to advertising in the first place, as I found old commercial jingles growing up took more precedence in my mind than learning about times tables during my formative years. I am a firm believer in everything being art, down to the lines created by a trail of ants or the way littered trash mimics wildflowers.
Other than being a creative person, I am often very curious. The word “why” used to be banned at the dinner table in my adolescence, my poor parents at their wits end with my questions. Even if I didn’t necessarily excel academically growing up, I never stopped wanting to learn more about everything. My current hyperfixation is bioluminesce in oceanic bodies and whether it could be transferred into a genetically modified tree, prompting a potential future with natural trees that also act as streetlights. This however, is a topic for another time.
To speed round some other facets of me, I will continue to list off some notable factors of myself in no particular order: I have two big dogs named Jazzy and Biscuit, my favorite meal of all time is a cheeseburger with french fries, i’m bad at chess but great at checkers, I enjoy collecting old postcards and stamps, and used to have a pet tarantula named Odysseus when I was 8 years old.
I am so lucky to have a space to share a little insight into who I am as a person, and hopefully along the way can share my voice within future blog posts. As for what my future holds, I find that working within a creative field will allow me multiple different avenues for creating art that transcends campaigns and advertisements. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and I hope that I can bring a new perspective to the Star Shopper NWA!
